Refined Project - Potato Font

Earlier this year I created font which I hand crafted using shapes cut out of potato and then mocked it up on a poster for display. I was surprisingly pleased with the outcome of each upper and lowercase alphabet I arranged on the posters and wanted to try utilize the font further in maybe another design. With this in mind I began thinking of a brand which could represent my potato font and what kind of products they would sell which I could apply my font to. The brand I came up with is called "Power Plants" this idea came to mind after researching potato's and learning that they basically act as batteries for the plant as part of it and can even charge some low voltage electrical devices. This works in conjunction with the thought of a power plant which is a station that generates energy primarily for electricity. I liked this idea of how potatoes are a fusion between organic healthy food being an actual plant and also electricity storage and production.

The concept which formed was that they are ultimately sources of energy in terms of electricity and also living things. They store the potential to power electrical appliances as well as organic creatures. With this in mind the name for my brand was ideated and I decided to mock up a packet of chips. The theme of the product is called "Charged Chips" relating to the developed brand identity and concept of potatoes and energy. I used the uppercase font for the charged chips heading and the lowercase font for further information. For the identity of the brand I used the uppercase font as I felt the title power plants needed something bold and powerful and was a better match between the two fonts. As a visual reference and design element I created a logo for the brand. The logo is a potato with two nails or rods in it and their is an electrical charge flowing between the two nails. This is in relation to the potato experiment where one tries to power a light bulb or other with nails and wire. I used that generally known idea to represent the brands logo for a clear connection to the fact that it is a potato producing energy which is what the basis of the brands identity is about and the theme which the product is trying to convey. For instance charged chips refers to a snack made from potato which is charged with energy and will charge you with energy.
