ABOUT ME

Reuven Wium

I do art because I love to materialize the fluid, lucid and contrasting imagery that takes form within the darkness of my mental space. I enjoy drawing from the chaotic emotional state of human existence bringing to life vivid depictions which I attempt to portray in hopes to communicate a perspective or trigger an unusually feeling leading one to experience a new unique space. I also experiment because I’m driven to discover new techniques and grow my working environment to allow me to convey a work of art more effectively.

When I try to conceptualize an idea I move through a dark ibis of endless space illuminated by possible notions, designs or elements which switch and fuse, creating multiple combinations in attempt to discover all paths of creativity. Then when something strike me. I feel it in the base of my stomach and anew door opens in my mind. Suddenly it’s like I can almost take a bigger breath of air, or stretch out a little more. That when I decide to go with a primary idea and reiterate my schematic designs until finally crafting. I always try to create depth with as many shades of colour as possible and seek a realistic similarity. If I’m given the choice, I wall either do an illustration or animation but my usual go to is illustration. I try and pull themes and topics from the world around me like when I’m walking through the city or enjoying a moment in life. All the techniques I learn I attempt to combine into whatever art piece I’m doing and push my limit by observing someone who inspires me an attempting a new approach in the process.

Currently I am rummaging through the world of surrealistic lucid illustration using colours which complement each other on the colour wheel or simply different shades of one or two colours. Sometimes I add another layer of separate shading on top of those colours for more effect. I started drawing on paper and did a series of lifelike surrealistic conceptual art which sparked my desire to learn illustration. At the time I drew cartoon like worlds, creatures and characters which were simple and had only a single layer of colour or shading. After studying some of my inspirations I learned to take not of things like lines shapes and size and other things like stylization leading me to where I am now.
