In this brief we were asked to explore and discuss a number of direct mail objects and assess the formats, intention and templates used. Construct a direct mail piece and apply the best suited format, template choice and context for brand communication.

I decided to make a direct mail marketing survey. I created a fictional company by the name of Murphy’s Law who is attempting to gather information from clients through carefully selected questions. Something that I learned when constructing a marketing survey is that the most important thing is getting the person to answer the questions nothing else, and to remind them that they are helping you help them in order to encourage and persuade them to answer your questions. That is why at the top of the page placed away from the questions is a paragraph explaining the company and that they are retrieving information to attempt to better the lives of the people answering the questions. Next to that in a contrasting colour is a square which stand out compare to the rest of the page. It contains a short slogan/identity of the brand, I did this for legitimacy and to strengthen the brands connection with the one being questioned. Spaced further below is the questions which are uniform and evenly laid out against a colour which matches and contrasts with the other white and blue colours, also making the ticking squares and logo square pop. Finally I placed a sentence saying “ Please provide an answer by making a mark in the boxes below.” Just above the lighter blue square. I made it black and put it against the white background so that it would sync with the rest of the text. It was also placed here to create an element of space between the top paragraph, the logo square and the question area. Originally it was a part of the top paragraph but after looking at other layout I learn this technique

A link to the final version on my portfolio website will be available soon, this is my process
