In this project the task was to create content for a marketing company which would be displayed on digital screens throughout their building. The content was required to offer a short a break from work in the form of a short visual breather of some kind.

After doing research into possibilities of things to create I came across a series which inspired me. Its name is “The Son of Zorn” it’s about a cartoon hero character who is animated over real life footage and scenes. It embodies the question of what if an animated warrior also had a normal suburban life amongst live-action. The show depicts scenes along the subject matter and has very dry crass humour which I found works very well in an office space if applied correctly.

Further research lead me to discover a cartoon set in the 1980s by the name of He-Man. This is a cartoon figure which is remembered and recognised by the generation of that time and shortly after. Keeping in mind that He-Man is a well-known character to the older and middle generation I thought he would be very useful and relate to the target audience. My idea then became clear.

I took the character He-man and applied him to the Son of Zorn concept however with my own unique twist. I created a character who represents a form of He-man who is older and tired of his battles and adventures. It is time that he settles down and finds a real job. This is almost a slightly washed up version of him. He resembles the look of a middle aged man who doesn’t gym and spends most of his time in the office. This He-Man goes on normal office adventures and deploys and interacts with very dry and crass humour similar to Son of Zorn. However he tends to zone out in various scenes and has day dreams about previous adventures, but at the end of each daydream he realizes actually how happy he is to be doing simple office work instead of risking his life and dealing with other aspects of his crazy quests. I redesigned He-Man, taking elements from his original costume and body and infusing them into a middle aged looking almost run down version of He-Man. The screens in the building would show a short episode every now and then of He-Man’s office journeys and people viewing can relate to the things he has to do and go through in a humorous and uplifting way. At the same time recognising the character and being familiar with him already will create much more intrigue for the viewers.
